As most woodworkers are aware, as of January 1, 2004, the pressure treated lumber industry has voluntarily switched from CCA chemical processes to alternative treating methods such as ACQ. While significant testing has been performed on galvanized screws to ensure their compatibility with the new treatment processes, to date stainless steel is the only corrosion resistant material to have gained widespread acceptance for use with these new materials. ProMax stainless steel screws are the ideal choice for use with these new materials. Note that because of the inherently lower strength of stainless steel compared to hardened steel, ProMax stainless steel screws are all #10’s, which provides roughly the same torque strength as the #8 ProMax No-Co-Rode screws. Made in Taiwan / China. Unthreaded Length 1-5/16"

ProMax™ Optimized Thread Length™: What It Means and Why You’ll Like It!
Deck screws are a good example of Optimized Thread Length. The screws normally used to install 2 x 4’s or 2 x 6’s for decking are 3 inches long and have 1 inch of unthreaded shank. Since 2 x 4 and 2 x 6 deck material is 1-1/2 inches thick, the threads bridge the joint, as shown, resulting in an uneven and unsightly surface, or screws that are over-driven trying to “pull the board down.”
ProMax™ screws are different: Thread length is optimized to eliminate crossthreading, and the 1/8” length system allows use of the longest possible screw. In most cases, the smooth shank and self-drilling point allow installation without predrilling! Just select a screw that provides an unthreaded shank length equal to or slightly greater than the material thickness being fastened.

Comments about #10 x 2-3/8'' ProMax 305 Stainless Steel Screws:

I used over 4000 of these screws on my last project and the heads stripped on a dozen or two. This usually happens with a worn bit, so make sure you keep a fresh bit.

I found it challenging to remove some of those stripped screws.

    Outstanding product!

Comments about #10 x 2-3/8'' ProMax 305 Stainless Steel Screws:

I have purchased many McFeely ProMax screws over the years. They are fantastic for all exterior applications, especially decking and fences. So now I've just purchased 2,000 screws so my daughter can replace her treated wood deck. When I installed the deck 17 years ago, I used the older style "deck screws" that are now rusted and impossible to remove. Should have had ProMax back then...

Comments about #10 x 2-3/8'' ProMax 305 Stainless Steel Screws:

I thought I could make up any shortage by buying similar screws at the local home improvement store.
Driving 3" screws is no fun when they are too soft or the recess doesnt fit tight enough even with the bit shipped with the screws. Dont know what the difference actually is, but McFeelys hardware just works better.

      ProMax Stainless Screws For Deck

      By Lonesomedave

Comments about #10 x 2-3/8'' ProMax 305 Stainless Steel Screws:

The Promax Stainless screws were great for installing the treated lumber decking on my new deck. The stainless will not bleed onto the lumber like most other types of decking screws. The new treatment on treated lumber is much more corrosive than the old formula.

The ProMax Stainless screws are not effected by the new treatment. And as always, the square bit heads make it much easier to install the screws.
