Use them wherever a finished appearance is desirable. Note that black oxide is primarily a decorative coating, and provides minimal corrosion resistance. I used it on a storage bench to attach black ATA case handles on each side. The washer head worked perfectly and it was very strong to support the heavy bench. Black color was a perfect match.
