Adding a self drilling point to a trim screw should put whoever thought of it into the Fastener Hall of Fame. They are designed to go through the trim and sheet rock into a 14 to 20 ga. steel stud, but they work well with wood studs too - just make sure you bury plenty of screw in the stud (the fine threads don’t have as much holding power as the deep thread screws designed for wood studs). These have a #1 Square Drive, so they can take more torque than the Phillips recess types. Remember that the head is very small, and the recess shallower than normal, so even these require a bit of finesse to drive - proceed carefully. Made in Taiwan. #1 Square Recess.

Comments about 8 x 3 Wood Trim Screws, Unplated Steel, Trim Head, Square Drive:
Used the #8x3s to re-install hardwood window and door trim of flute and multiple edge headers that had been warped by water damage. Forced 3/4 inch long and short runs from 30 inches to 106 against the extension jams for a no gap fit. The head size of course was larger than desired. Wood putty filled them in well enough.

I used these to attach window trim around windows in a sound studio. The walls were extra thick so the 2 1/4" screws wouldn't reach the internal wall studs. 3" length was the only way to get the job done.
