Need to order multiple sizes or lengths of this fastener?

Whether you are building some great looking 2 x 4 furniture or doing a bit of light framing, ProMax™ Optimized Thread Length wood screws will make construction easier. The extra long unthreaded shank prevents cross-threading or jacking without the need for a clearance hole, and the 1/8" length system allows use of the longest screw possible without fear of backside protrusion. These Square Drive flat head wood screws have self drilling auger points, self countersinking nibs, and have a light “lube” finish suitable for interior, non-visible applications. Made in the USA/Canada/Taiwan. #2 Square Recess. Unthreaded Length 1-9/16"

ProMax™ Optimized Thread Length™: What It Means and Why You’ll Like It!
Deck screws are a good example of Optimized Thread Length. The screws normally used to install 2 x 4’s or 2 x 6’s for decking are 3 inches long and have 1 inch of unthreaded shank. Since 2 x 4 and 2 x 6 deck material is 1-1/2 inches thick, the threads bridge the joint, as shown, resulting in an uneven and unsightly surface, or screws that are over-driven trying to “pull the board down.”
ProMax™ screws are different: Thread length is optimized to eliminate crossthreading, and the 1/8” length system allows use of the longest possible screw. In most cases, the smooth shank and self-drilling point allow installation without predrilling! Just select a screw that provides an unthreaded shank length equal to or slightly greater than the material thickness being fastened.

What can I say about these screws other than, each one does it's job, by drawing both pieces together rather than holding them apart by bridging, and saving the additional work of drilling through-holes first.

Comments about #8 x 2-7/8'' ProMax Steel Dry Lube Flat Head Wood Screws:

This is a strong screw and is perfect for basic construction. I do light remodeling for a living so I don't always like to get out the air nail gun. I just grab these 2-7/8" long screws and build walls, toe-nail studs and build headers. The 2-7/8" length is great to put together (2) 2x4's without having the screw poke thru. It gives just a bit more holding than you'd get from using a 2-1/2" screw.

Comments about #8 x 2-7/8'' ProMax Steel Dry Lube Flat Head Wood Screws:

The 2 7/8 size is perfect for joining 2 2x4's together w/o protruding. The lack of threading near the head pulls the 2 together much tighter than normal drywall screws and w/o predrilling. I've bought 1000's of this length and not one has broken. This particular screw has saved me a lot of extra time on the job.

I used these screws extensively while remodeling our house. I went through probably 5000 of them, mostly screwing down 2x8 subfloor. They're strong and easy to use. You cannot go wrong using these screws on standard interior 2xWhatevers.
