Product Information

Screws optimized for Azek with custom plugs for an easy to install ‘hidden’ look

Azek is a popular material to use for building a lifetime deck. However, it’s important to make sure you’re using the right fastener for long-term corrosion protection and for the aesthetic appearance of your new deck. FastenMaster’s Cortex screws have been rigorously tested by both FastenMaster and Michigan State University.

The Cortex also uses a unique countersinking driver bit (three are included with each 350 pack and six with every 1,050 pack of screws) to drive the screw to the exact depth necessary for covering it with a pre-engineered plug designed to match your material.

The Cortex screw is warranted for use in ACQ, Copper Azole pressure treated lumber. Approved by Azek. Plugs pictured are gray, actual plugs will match Kona Azek material. Available in 100 sq. ft. (350 screws) and 300 sq. ft. (1,050 screws) deck packages – based on 6" board width and 16" O.C. joist design. Made in USA.

Comments about FastenMaster 8 x 2-3/4'' Cortex Screws for Azek - Kona:

The screws are nice because they match the deck perfectly. Although, had I known I would have given them a pass. The head is way to small to handle the torque of a three inch screw. Leading to the screw head reaming it self out. When that happens you'll need to destroy the board to get the screw out (which is quite painful when decking with Azek). [...] will not sell the plugs separately. I'm using a 5/32 pre-drilled hole while soaping the screws, that seemed to work as well, but I worrying about not having the correct compression on the deck boards.
