Product Information

Screws optimized for Trex with custom plugs for an easy to install ‘hidden’ look

Trex is a popular material to use for building a lifetime deck. However, it’s important to make sure you’re using the right fastener for long-term corrosion protection and for the aesthetic appearance of your new deck. FastenMaster’s Cortex screws have been rigorously tested by both FastenMaster and Michigan State University.

The Cortex also uses a unique countersinking driver bit (three are included with each 350 pack and six with every 1,050 pack of screws) to drive the screw to the exact depth necessary for covering it with a pre-engineered plug designed to match your material.

The Cortex screw is warranted for use in ACQ, Copper Azole pressure treated lumber. Approved by Trex. Plugs pictured are gray, actual plugs will match Madeira Trex material. Available in 100 sq. ft. (350 screws) and 300 sq. ft. (1,050 screws) deck packages – based on 6" board width and 16" O.C. joist design. Made in USA.

Best Uses

Comments about 8 x 2-3/4'' Cortex Screws for Trex - Madeira:

The square head driver could not drive the screws to the full depth on 25% of the screws. Without doing that, the plugs would not work so additional effort is needed. Also, the square head screw rounded out several times making it unable to countersink the head. The screws need to be of a harder material.
