Pocket Hole Joinery: What You Need to Pocket hole joinery is popular because it is a fast, strong, easily adaptable, precise method of assembly. Joints are as strong as mortise & tenon joints and can be made in a fraction of the time. Award-Winning Kreg Jigs use a 3/8” counterbore bit with an 11/64” pilot to drill a 15° angle into the first piece. With the joint tightly clamped, a special self-drilling “pocket hole” screw is placed in the pocket and driven tight to complete the joint. Pocket Hole screws feature an auger point to prevent raising a chip between the two parts during assembly, ensuring a tight joint. A large pan head with a #2 Square Recess and extended unthreaded shank enable this screw to draw the two members of the joint tight.

Comments about Kreg #8 x 2-1/2'' Pocket Hole Screws Coarse Thread Washer Head Clear Zinc Plated:
I built my own home 21 yrs. ago. It was time to rebuild the frt. porch 60' X 12' w/4 sets of stairs & 2 landings, that is a total of 742 s.f.That as well is a lot of spindels & this is where they were primarely used on 13/4" X 1 1/2" X 29". Some railing spans were 8', 10' & 12'. Nothing held better. No spliting or tear through.
