Now there is a better way to attach fiber cement board siding and trim, or cement backer board to metal studs: Use stainless steel Square Drive cement board screws! Fastening the new fiber cement board products (including siding and backer boards) with standard drywall screws (which can break easily) or nails (which tend to back out over time) can be difficult, and cause problems after installation. Do it right and forget about it! Aggressive nibs under the head of these cement board screws helps them countersink flush (crucial when installing siding), and a self drilling point helps them penetrate tough cement board easily. In addition, they have a deep, aggressive thread for superior holding power, and the strength and corrosion resistance of 410 stainless steel. What could be better? Made in Taiwan.

Comments about 8 x 1-5/8 Fiber Cement Board Screws, Stainless Steel, Flat Head, Square Drive:
Install Hardie lap siding on exterior of house. Can adjust fit a Hardie board if needed. Can repair siding in the future with out destroying it.Price is more the other fasteners.Takes a few additional seconds to screw in vs nail gun.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Screw Hardi Board Siding!
Screw is the smart way to install lap siding, not only can I back it out if the board bows, screws will not back out overtime as a nail can. Also repairs can be made without ripping out good boards to get to a repair area.Screws cost more then nails and takes a few more seconds to mount and screw but the advantages far outweigh these factors.
