Specially designed for Pocket Hole Cabinet Construction (aka face frame), these pocket hole screws have combined the toughness of our pan head screws. A self tapping auger point prevents the screw from forcing the rail and stile apart as it advances from part to part. A standard screw point can raise a chip between the parts, resulting in a gaping, unprofessional joint. The shank on a pocket hole screw is only threaded for the first 5/8 to further reduce the possibility of cross-threading. The Fine thread version is designed for hardwoods like Oak and Cherry that accept fine threads without stripping yet require the strength of a larger shank. You normally can’t see pocket hole screws as they are installed so it can be hard to gauge their progress. Use a clutch equipped drill and avoid disaster! Made in China/Taiwan. #2 Square Recess.

I'm attaching 1" marine plywood to 1942 harden steel wall studs, the self tapping feature is a must because i don't want to pre-drill holes into this material, i'v lost a lot of bits to this project house in the past. would suggest however, something like the old screw drivers which had the clamp at the end to hold the screw while it was started in the material. this would be a very big help when working on a wall, or a magnetic bit would be a help.
