Until now, though, spiral cut router bits were only available in plunge cut styles, meaning that if you wanted to take a trim cut, you needed to be using a fence or template and guide bushing. These spiral bits are available in up or down-shear, so you can decide which direction the chips exhaust. Downshear is preferred when routing from above because the chips blow away from you, and upshear is preferred when using a router table. When trimming the over-hanging edge of high pressure laminate on a countertop, use a downshear router bit so that the bit won’t “lift” the laminate as it trims. Both bits have double bearings for maximum support. Upshear is shown on right, Downshear on left. Made in Italy.
